Zululand tips the scale against NKZN

The line-outs were hotly contested by both teams

Vryheid Rugby Club played against Sentraal in an opening game for the main event between Northern KwaZulu-Natal (NKZN) and Zululand on Saturday. The first game was very physical, as these two teams are rivals on the rugby field every season. Even though some of the Sentraal and Vryheid players couldn’t play in this epic clash, due to their commitments to the NKZN team, it was still a serious battle. Vryheid’s defence was up to scratch and kept Sentraal at bay, preventing them from scoring tries. However, Sentraal did manage to break through and score once. The line-outs were hotly contested by both teams, with the players leaping into the air to secure ball possession. At the end of the day, Vryheid was the stronger team and emerged victorious with a score of 30-10.

When the NKZN and Zululand teams set their boots on the field, it was ‘game on’. Zululand took an early lead and dominated the game thereafter. NKZN defended valiantly, but Zululand was the stronger team. The line-outs on the NKZN side were questionable, with many lost. Zululand ‘trampled over’ the NKZN team and scored try after try to leave the Natal team in the dust with a score-line of 12-33.
