The Durban International Marathon took place on Sunday and a member of Vryheid Athletic Club, Amanda Vergottini, took part and finished in a time of 04:10. Amanda described the race as very tough, but that she enjoyed it very much. The club is proud of you, Amanda!
Three trail runners from the club – Lauren Glutz, Ronell Beän and Ronell Keeve – ran the Drakensberg Dumbe Trail Run over the weekend. The run took place over two days, with runners doing 20km on Saturday and 15km on Sunday morning. The run is set on the escarpment bordering the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal, near Oliviershoek Pass and Sterkfontein Dam. The race village offers full catering for the entire weekend in a setting where runners could relax during the day and enjoy magnificent views of the Drakensberg. The 20km on Saturday was a daunting trail run starting along the escarpment and then dropping down into the valley, running and climbing through beautiful indigenous forest; then climbing out again to run really close to the edge, making for some thrilling views. The 15km on Sunday took runners along flowing single tracks covering rolling hills of grassy fields among flowering Proteas. Hearts and souls and minds refreshed, three tired ladies finished their run in style. Well done, girls!
