‘New blood’ at Vryheid Rugby Club

The Vryheid team was undefeated last year, but 2022 was a more difficult year

Vryheid Rugby Club elected a new committee on October 28. The new committee would like to thank the previous committee for all their hard work and keeping the rugby club going through the Covid-19 pandemic. Jaco Maritz and his team have worked non-stop for the past five years to keep Vryheid Rugby Club alive and active.

The Vryheid team was undefeated last year, but 2022 was a more difficult year. With 12 highly dedicated players, Vryheid was able to reach the finals, but sadly lost by six points. This dedication did not go unnoticed though, with 16 Vryheid players being chosen for the Northern Natal Rugby training squad. The Vryheid Northern Natal side played two games against Gert Sibande Pumas, with both teams winning their home games by the narrowest of margins.

The same dedication has continued and the usual players are already busy with pre-season training. However, with Jaco departing as chairman and coach of Vryheid Rugby Club, the new committee is now looking for a new coach. The newly-elected committee is as follows: Chris van Rooyen – president; Chris Pretorius – club captain; Richard Pace – chairman; Lwazi – vice-chairman; Elena Pace – treasurer; Jennifer Pretorius – secretary; and Carl, Babyface and Saskie – extra members.
