Sandra scoops fifth position in MTB race

Four local riders took part in this well-organised and well-attended 70km event

The annual Alzu Tour de Farm Mountain Bike event was held last Saturday at Alzu farms, just outside of Middelburg. Four local riders took part in this well-organised and well-attended 70km event. Well done to Sandra Haywood for claiming fifth position in the ladies’ line-up in a time of 2:27. The ladies’ winner was Kim le Court (SA champion) and Sandra was only 17 minutes behind her! It was exceptional racing, so well done to Sandra. Lourens Vlam de Beer also did exceptionally well in the men’s division, coming 15th in 2:13, just 13 minutes after the men’s leader. Well done to Everette Haywood (2:31) and Andrea de Beer, who also had an excellent race. Although the route is quite flat and on district and farm roads, the racing is difficult and full-out all the way. Saturday’s weather conditions were pretty windy, making it even more difficult. But as always, the mountain bikers were up for the challenge.
