Michaelis Challenge back with a bang

The routes were well-maintained and gave runners and riders excellent views of the plantations and dam

The Michaelis Challenge is a popular event for mountain bike and trail running enthusiasts. This is the first event in almost three years after the pandemic. On Saturday, runners and bikers from near and far gathered at Bloemveld Dam to compete in this very challenging race. Radio personality Styles Mbatha and Mike V from East Coast Radio broadcast the weekend morning show live from the event.

Mountain bike riders could enter the 10km, 20km or 50km race, while trail runners could enter the 5km, 10km or 22km race. The 50km mountain bike trail saw riders climb 800m uphill, with enough technical challenges to mimic the name of the race. The 10km race was a more relaxed but also very challenging race, and many of the learners from Michaelis Private School joined in this part of the event, accompanied by a father or mother to help them along the route. Both the 10km MTB and running route were equally challenging. Jeanine Theron from Vryheid Athletic Club managed to take the win in the running section.

The routes were well-maintained and gave runners and riders excellent views of the plantations and dam, as well as the necessary trail challenges. It was a treat for both runners and riders to participate in this well-planned event.
