The ultimate human race that tests mind and body

This year will be a ‘down-run’ from Pietermaritzburg to Durban

Known as the ‘Ultimate Human Race’, the Comrades Marathon is a gruelling physical and mental test for runners.

It is the world’s largest and oldest ultra-marathon race, and is supported by thousands of people from around the globe.

After a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 95th Comrades Marathon, which is a ‘down-run’ from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, will be held on Sunday (August 28).

Runners will line up at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall, where the strater’s gun will be fired, and the race finishes 12 hours later at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium. Obviously the top runners will be hoping for times under six hours.

This year, the runners will cover a distance of 89.885km, with athletes from 70 nations around the world taking part.

– Zacks Ndlovu is looking forward to his 20th Comrades Marathon run this year.
Siyabonga Mbatha will be running his 20th Comrades Marathon on August 28.
Mazet Mnguni will be participating in her first Comrades. She is excited and says she is looking forward to it.
Mark Winter will be running his eighth Comrades.
Mandla Zondo will be running his first Comrades Marathon this year.
Khulane Dube will be running his second marathon.
Jane Schiever has completed seven Comrades Marathons and is hoping to earn her eighth medal this year.
Israel Zuma will be running his first Comrades Marathon this year.
