Maintaining dignity at Drakensberg Secondary

Stakeholders agreed that proper sanitation provided dignity

At 103 years old, Drakensberg Secondary School is one of Estcourt’s oldest learning institutions.

Some of the school’s facilities are just as old and were in need of a revamp.

This was the case for the school’s ablution blocks, which were in dire need of refurbishment.

After deliberation, the Gift of the Givers Foundation came on board to renovate two ablution blocks.

On August 4, the newly renovated blocks were officially handed over to the school, among Education Department dignitaries, school staff, management, learners and community members.

The ceremony also coincided with the 30th anniversary celebration week for the Gift of the Givers.

With 1,064 learners, educator Mrs Esoup said that the renovated ablution facilities were a ‘big deal’ for the school, saying that the need for proper facilities cannot be over-emphasised.
