JKA karate is back on track

The one-and-a-half hour training session was packed with vital information candidates had to remember for the grading.

lLocal JKA karate is back on track and picking up speed.

Daily checks and regulatory rules for all NKZN dojos include mandatory masks, compulsory screening and constant sanitising.

After more than two years and 611 days of national lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the NKZN JKA region is finally back in action.

According to Sensei Johan Swart, the region was finally able to host Sensei Johan la Grange, JKA 6th Dan and the SAJKA Chief Instructor and Technical Director.

“Sensei la Grange not only came to review the standard of JKA karate within the region after a long period of ‘competitive inactivity’. He also evaluated candidates who wanted to grade to their next black belt level,” explained Sensei Swart.

He added that tradition dictates that a pre-grading and training session precedes the grading.

This was open to all Red to Black belts, along with a select few junior and adult candidates.

“Despite the heat on the day (Saturday, November 6), load-shedding and a lack of air-conditioning, karateka were not deterred from giving their best.”

The one-and-a-half hour training session was packed with vital information candidates had to remember for the grading.

“It is always an honour and a privilege to have Sensei la Grange visit our region. His skills and knowledge of the art of JKA karate are invaluable.”

More information about the grading candidates will be published in an upcoming edition.
