NEWCASTLE KZN: Community comes together for night-time market

"It shows us that we can still love a sort-of fun and normal life, even with the current restrictions."

Sweet treats, exotic foods, gourmet desserts, designer garments, décor items and cookware. All these and more were on sale at the Night Market, hosted at Yasseens @TheMarket on Amcor Street recently.

Talha Randeree, who ran a Thai food stall at the market with his wife, said it was a wonderful surprise seeing the greater Newcastle community coming together while also adhering to regulations on social distancing and wearing face masks.

“It shows us that we can still love a sort-of fun and normal life, even with the current restrictions.”

Randeree said that as a vendor, he was thrilled at how many people wanted to try his exotic dishes, despite these being somewhat different to what Newcastillians are accustomed to. The feedback has also been positive, he added.

Overall, he described the Night Market as a success and was proud to be sold out before the evening had wrapped up.

“It was a really awesome family event and we are excited for the future. We want to thank the community, vendors and organisers for coming together and making it a success.”
