Last Wednesday, 300 large food parcels were packed and ready for delivery in various parts of Ezakheni and Ladysmith.

This is part of a hunger alleviation campaign that has already touched the lives of thousands of people from Estcourt to Newcastle.

Joining hands, the teams from both the Gift of the Givers Foundation and Sumitomo Rubber Industries visited wards 7,10,21,22, 25 and 27 and handed out the food parcels to the waiting communities.

“We were joined by Manager: PR Communications, Events & CSI Joanne de Freitas as well as four volunteers from the factory. They assisted us all through the distribution and were very hands on. The community members were extremely grateful for the parcels,” commented Gift of the Givers Estcourt community liaison Jaaved Khan.

Mrs de Freitas said that the company was glad to be a helping hand and hoped to return with more assistance for the residents in the communities that are located within a close proximity of the factory.

The food parcels were appreciatively received by the beneficiaries who showed their gratitude by ululating and uttering many words of thanks.

“Many thanks Joanne and team as well as Mr Gumede and Soojad khan from Operation Sakume Sakhe for their assistance,” added Mr Khan.
