Life under lockdown – eerie and in the raw

Residents have largely been compliant, but there have been enough regulation breakers to keep authorities busy.

Normally bustling and busy, Dundee has shrunk into its shell after the lockdown extension was announced on Thursday evening by President, Cyril Ramaphosa.

SAPS and traffic officials are out on constant patrols and have stepped up efforts to ensure residents stay at home, as the country battles to stem the Covid-19 pandemic which has engulfed the world.

While many residents have largely adhered to the regulations, there were reports over the Easter weekend of two being arrested on Thursday evening, for travelling without a permit from Gauteng to Pomeroy.

On Saturday, almost 100 people were said to have gathered for a funeral on Bulwer Street. Residents said they had called SAPS to complain. Police officials arrived later but the funeral gathering had largely broken up by then. Lockdown regulations call for funeral gatherings not to exceed 50 people and a permit is needed.

There were also reports of people jogging in the early mornings – which is also against lockdown regulations. Residents are reminded that the lockdown and its regulations are in place until April 30.
