Runners leave a legacy out on the road

The marathon offered three events, namely a 21.1km half-marathon, a 10km run and also a 10km walk

Umtshezi Athletics Club proudly presented the TW Mchunu Legacy Marathon in Estcourt on Saturday morning. Hundreds of runners gathered at the start at Estcourt High School, with everyone heading out on the route at 6am sharp.
The overcast weather conditions and low cloud cover was excellent for running.

The marathon offered three events, namely a 21.1km half-marathon, a 10km run and also a 10km walk. Runners and walkers from far and wide, all across the province and country, turned up to take part.

There were plenty of water tables along the route to keep everyone hydrated and strong until the finish at the Wembezi Sports Ground.

Large support was seen at the water tables and also on the route, with enthusiastic spectators cheering the runners along as they cruised to the finish line.

The onlookers made sure they were part of the action and even took videos of the runners as they sped by. Traffic police and an ambulance service were on hand at all times, making sure the runners and walkers were safe.

Speaking to the organisers, they say everything went well on the day. They thank all the athletes for coming to Estcourt and helping to ensure that the marathon was a successful one.
