Rainbow Queens crowned winners of annual Lekker Resies

The Lekker Resies is a local spin on The Amazing Race, featuring 15 teams of five members each.

Moving from one venue to another in search of clues to complete tasks, was what the Stucky Motors Lekker Resies on Saturday was all about.

The event is a local spin on The Amazing Race, where 15 teams made up of five members each scramble around town, solving clues until finally completing the challenge.

“The teams visited 20 destinations in Newcastle. The event has grown into one where friends and companies have fun and build camaraderie,” said Marketing Director of the Champ Group, Johan Pieters.

As of this year, the Champ Group of Companies is the new owner of the event, which was previously organised by Amajuba High School.

At 10am, teams dressed in uniquely themed outfits gathered at Tree Tops, at The Pines Wedding and Conference Village. By 5pm, all teams had convened back at Tree Tops for the announcement of the winning team and runner-up.

“The first prize was sponsored by ATKV resorts, where each member of the team wins a five-day stay for a family of four. The second prize includes a Checkers/Shoprite R1 000 gift voucher for each member, as well as various other prizes for all teams,” said Pieters.

Once the prize-giving concluded, the highlight of the evening was the performance by popular Afrikaans singer, Jan Bloukaas, who pumped up the crowd with some of his hit songs.
