Night runners blaze a trail in the darkness

Rocks marked with glow in the dark paint indicated the distance covered and the direction to the finish line.

Undeterred by the gathering of clouds and the fine drizzle ahead of the race on Saturday, participants at the second Social Night Trail Run hosted by Strong Like a Girl, took to the course as the sun set.

After making its debut in November last year, the five and ten kilometre night trail run has quickly gained momentum and popularity among avid runners and social walkers.

Registered members had the opportunity to view the picturesque beauty at the Grey Goose Trail, when the natural light diminished and headlamps and torches were needed to meander through the challenging course. Along the trail, rocks marked with glow in the dark paint indicated the distance covered and the direction needed to follow to the finish line.

With zebras and other wildlife galloping in the distance, participants made their way through the rocky and uneven terrain treading carefully. Young children were seen with their parents, climbing the hills with ease and cheering each other on.

“There was a slight drizzle for the first few minutes and then we had a beautiful sunset and even saw three rainbows; it was a beautiful evening,” said organiser, Taryn Strydom.
