Iskcon devotees congregate for sacred 108 Fire Sacrifice

This event marked the culmination and start of the new phase of construction at the Iskcon Newcastle Temple, which was unveiled at the ceremony.

The grounds of Iskcon Newcastle were abuzz with activity on Saturday, where hundreds of ecstatic devotees attended the Bhumi Puja and 108 Fire Sacrifice.

Devotees from KwaZulu-Natal and as far as Cape Town, Gauteng and Mpumalanga gathered to honour the presiding Brahaman, Sri Gauranga Das, chief guest, Govardana Das, His Holiness Bhakti Caitanya Swami and His Holiness Partha Sarathi Das Goswami.

This event marked the culmination and start of the new phase of construction at the Iskcon Newcastle Temple, which was unveiled at the ceremony.

It also saw the installation of the deity, Ananta Shesha in the spot where the temple altar will be built.

Devotees believe: “There is no end to His strength as He holds the entire universe.”

He was laid in a pit with flowers and auspicious paraphernalia.

The ceremony concluded with a sumptuous feast for attendees.
