Athletes take on the Memel Walk with a pep in their step

Johan Pieters of Champ Marketing, organisers of the the Vlam Panelbeaters Memel to Newcastle Walk and Run, said the race keeps Newcastle alive.

The Vlam Panelbeaters Memel to Newcastle Walk and Run has kept its momentum. Thousands gathered for this year’s momentous race.

The race happens each year on Woman’s Day (August 9), which goes significantly well with the honouring of women.

Many women were witnessed participating in the race of more than 50km, which can demonstrate the strength of female competitors.

Many racers claimed this was one of their favourite races in KwaZulu-Natal.

Known as being an endurance race, athletes braved the cold weather on Friday morning to showcase their fitness.

Johan Pieters of Champ Marketing, organisers of the the Vlam Panelbeaters Memel to Newcastle Walk and Run, said the race keeps Newcastle alive:

“Each year, we encounter many challenges leading to the race but we are able to work and push ourselves through, because we understand the race is about people. Many runners enjoy being here and we see positive results after. I would say we had another successful year. We didn’t have any accidents or any bad encounter on race day. Of course, it all wouldn’t be possible without the involvement and participation of water tables, ambulances, traffic department and most importantly, the racers. We are looking forward to a great year next year. 2020 should be a big year for everyone.”

Athletes on the day received medals and trophies after completing the race.
