Dundee Secondary School says ‘No’ to drugs

Grade 9 learners together with the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health are saying no to using drugs.

A peaceful march was held from Dundee Secondary School to the Dundee taxi rank this morning.

Grade 9 learners, together with the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health, used the awareness march to voice their concern over the growing number of young people in the town who have turned to drugs.

The Grade 9 learners were taught about the ‘three stages of drug abuse’:

  • The experimental stage where a person will experiment with drugs because they want to know what happens when you are high.
  • The recreation stage where a person only uses drugs when they are with their friends.
  • The pre-occupation stage is when a person becomes addicted to using drugs and can’t function properly until they have used drugs.
