Challenging orientation camp at Treverton College

Learners were involved in activities that included an orientation challenge on the campus, an obstacle course challenge, raft building, and chopping out alien invasive plant species

The grade eight orientation camp for 2019 was based at the Treverton dam for the first time. The change in venue proved most suitable since the dam offered both a beautiful setting and also much fun.

Around 45 grade eight learners along with the grade eight dorm prefects, school prefects, SCA committee members, and gap year students, made up the full contingent. The grade eight learners were divided into six groups according to their sporting houses.

The aim of involving so many other members of the Treverton pupil body was to try to build a positive relationship between the grade eights and their leaders as they come to terms with the college environment.

The kind of relationship desired is one where a sense of unity prevails through understanding true Christian values such as honesty, hard work and love for one another.

The college hoped to do this partly through the devotions that the SCA committee members led both in the mornings and in the evenings.

The Gap Year students were involved in this camp for the first time, and the change in that program to one that is strongly ministerially orientated should be very influential in the lives of the learners in the future.

The learners seemed to have a lot of fun, and ended the camp having learnt a lot about their own group members and something of the nature of the Treverton environment.
