#ChelmsfordChallenge2018: Swimmers ride the victory wave (Gallery)

The KFC Chelmsford Challenge kicked off at 7.30am sharp, with organisers rallying to accommodate enthusiastic swimmers.

One of the third oldest open water races in existence took place at the crack of dawn on Sunday morning, (February 18).

The 33rd KFC Chelmsford Challenge kicked off at 7.30am sharp, with organisers rallying to accommodate enthusiastic swimmers.

Competitors from far and wide took on the challenge as the buzzer for the first race; 3000m swim sounded.

Brett Manning was the first man to cross the finish line with 35 minutes and 41 seconds, beating his previous record of 37 minutes and 56 seconds, last year.

In the women’s 3000m race, Abigail Peters surfaced at 40 minutes and 25 seconds also topping her previous time of 43 minutes and 37seconds.
