GALLERY: Oval Track celebrates 21 successful years of raceway entertainment

The celebrations started off with a 5km mud challenge, with participants testing their fitness levels and physical endurance. The various teams took on the daunting challenge with enthusiasm, pushing through the various obstacles with glee.

Newcastle Raceway, Oval Track, celebrated its 21st birthday on Saturday, September 2, with a birthday party involving the entire community.

The celebrations started off with a 5km mud challenge, with participants testing their fitness levels and physical endurance. The various teams took on the daunting challenge with enthusiasm, pushing through the various obstacles with glee.

There was also a Show Your Ride competition, Sound Competition and various stalls for Newcastillians to enjoy on the day.

Spokesperson for the Oval Track, Zaakira Khan, said the Show Your Ride and Sound Competitions were so well supported, that car enthusiasts from Pretoria and Ladysmith also participated.

Following the competitions and the mud challenge, Newcastillians were able to enjoy a night of racing.

Results:

In the Go-Kart division, Liam Lindeque clinched first place, with Thabo-Jan and Shakeela Ameer in second and third place respectively.

CJ Myburgh took first place in the Rookie Division, Imtiaz Ameer in second position and Tiaan Buys in third position.

In the women’s division, Zaakira Khan sped to first place, followed by Wilma Lindeque in second place and Shandeera Govender in third place.

Dhulla Jamaloodeen secured first place in the 1600 division, followed by Wiekie Bezuidenhout in second place and Ali Jamaloodeen in third place.

During the 1660 division, Imran Ameer took first place, with Shaukat Khan and Tiaan Buys in second and third place respectively.

Pieter Bester won the two-lite division, followed by Deon van der Merwe in second place and Dewald Botha in third place.

The Hot Rod division was won by Hendrik van der Merwe, while Gideon Hand clinched second place and Anthony van der Merwe in third place.

Hendrik van der Merwe continued his winning streak by speeding to victory in the Tin Top division, followed by Boet Buys in second place and JP Bruin in third place.

The V8 Flexi division was won by Craig Lindeque in first place.
