Shawe family triumph in SPCA’s bumper golf day

Winning the better ball competition was the father and son pairing of Lionel and Robert Shawe.

Despite a number of events taking place in and around Dundee over the past weekend, the SPCA Charity Golf Day at the Dundee Country Club still attracted almost 60 players.
Winning the better ball competition was the father and son pairing of Lionel and Robert Shawe on 47 pts, who managed to count out W Maritz and L Von Mollendorff who also finished with 47 pts.
The prize for third place was also won on a count out, with P Booysen and J Bierbaum sneaking home ahead of M Nero and R Guelpa on 45 pts.
The longest drive for the men on hole no. three was won by Robert Shawe and Sonel Von Mollendorff out drove the ladies to win their longest drive on hole no. five.
The prize for nearest the pin on hole no. four went to Debbie Catlett with Clement Sithhole having a great tee shot on no. 16 to find himself lying 30 cms from the pin to claim this prize, just a pity that he missed the putt!
The following players carded two cubs and a share of the stake money: Lionel Shawe no’s 12 and 16, Barry Sandy no’s 4 and 16, Billy Francis no. 16 and Debbie Catlett No. 4.
With summer almost upon us and the sun setting after 6pm, the Friday 10 Hole Meat Competition is once again building momentum.
The October Monthly Mug, Individual Medal competition, will be played this coming Saturday and players are reminded to get their names on the time sheet.
