Life with Pieter…. loving it: Tomato or Te’Mato

Te'Mato Bistro has opened in the Dundee Country Club and Pieter has fully revamped the area that was previously used for conferences.

You have to listen carefully when Pieter Geyser chats to you. This 24-year-old bundle of energy has done many things and is a master of many: digital marketing, writing, running and building websites, being a chef and even has 15 skydiving jumps to his name.
Now in Dundee for the past few months, he was taken a leap of faith by opening his first restaurant – although he has played waiter long and hard for many other restaurants that were not his.

The theme is red and the décor gives diners the feeling that they are in a French sidewalk café in Paris.
“That’s exactly the atmosphere I wanted. Red is my favourite colour too. I like to think of it as a French Bistro with a South African menu – I know South Africans love their steak.”
Pieter is clear that the Bistro is not for golfers or Country Club members only.
“It is open to everyone who wants a different kind of dining experience. The menu is varied to cater for all tastes and includes breakfasts.”
A stage has also been installed in the venue. “This is to attract local artists who may like to showcase their talent.
“Our opening night included the Mostert Family Musical Ensemble and that was brilliant.
“But I do not want to limit acts to music only – I would welcome one-man shows, poetry readings, even quiz nights, art expos – everyone says there is nothing to do around here, so let’s create a vibe.”
Being the digital marketer he is, the Te’Mato Facebook page already has 600 ‘likes’ and restaurant bookings can also be done online.
But why Te’Mato?
“I was playing around with words … I have always wanted to name a restaurant. I typed in Tomato – but thought, no boring – then I changed a few vowels around, and viola – Te’Mato.”
Being a man with so many interests where is his true passion? ”
Life. I love life. I love people.”
