LARRY and the Lurkers visited Vryheid again, after bringing on some bluesy rock at Ella Mera in March of this year.
The band, with Larry Amos on vocals and lead guitar, Kalvern van der Merwe on drums, and local rocker, Ian Bland on bass guitar, jazzed things up on the deck at Dee’s Restaurant and Bar on Friday night, August 15.
Larry Amos, of Baxtop fame, is regarded as one of South Africa’s best blues/rock guitarists and, although the turnout was slightly less than initially anticipated, the vibe was thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended.
“It’s such a pleasure playing to such and awesome and appreciative crowd,” said Kalvern van der Merwe from behind the drums, between songs, as the show progressed and the remaining audience eventually moved their chairs closer to the band, soaking in the sultry vibe emanating from the soulful resonance of Larry and the Lurkers.
Despite the cold weather, those who came out to support the show were surely not disappointed, and undoubtedly departed with the feeling of warmth that only music can impart.
