OUR FIRST fresh water competition was not very big, due to the cold weather conditions, and there were only a handful of die-hard anglers who braved the weather and took on the challenge. Despite the low attendance, however, many prizes were won and Saturday evening turned out to be a huge success.
Louis Botes, Jr, made his legendary sheep on the spit and all who attended were treated to a live acoustic performance by local musician, Phillip Taylor, who has been rather active on the music front recently, entertaining both young and old with his versatile vocals and his astonishing ability to transform even a mediocre melody into a rocking rendition of its former self.
Taylor, known off stage as Dupie, enthralled the audience with a riveting acoustic set, and got the crowd on their feet and singing along to favourites like Kenny Rogers’ ‘The Gambler’ and Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline, to name but a few.
“This young man is dynamite,” says Marlize Coetser, Secretary of Vryheid Ski Boat Club.
Thank you to all the members who came in early to help with the day’s events and the preparation of the food, and a big thank you to all our sponsors, who helped us make this competition a day to remember.
“Tannie Marie en Tannie T, julle visse was die beste.”
