IN ANOTHER outstanding display of domination on the field, both the first and second team managed to secure convincing defeats against Newcastle on Saturday, June 7.

The second team played first, going up against Newcastle’s fourth team, in the second division, with a solid victory of 68 points to Newcastle’s 0.

Forward, Wessie van der Westhuizen and Back, Shaun Dreyer, were awarded Man of the Match for the second team.

“I can’t really specify who played well, because all the guys played well, and there are guys in the second team, who played for the first team before, who seem to be knocking on the door to heading back to the first team,” says Head Coach and previous Cheetah’s Hooker, Rich Verster.

The first team annihilated Newcastle’s second team in the first division, with an impressive 86-0.

Forward, Tiaan Kruger and back, Dylan Herbst, were awarded Man of the Match.

Running rugby is a skillful style of play. By supporting the ball carrier you keep the ball moving from player to player in preference to rucking, mauling and kicking for position. It`s a skillful, adventurous style of rugby, played only by teams of fit and skillful players. You enjoy your rugby by committing to keeping possession of the ball and keeping it moving, searching for, or creating weaknesses in the defence.

In the best display of  ‘running rugby’ many of Vryheid Rugby Club’s fans have witnessed in quite some time, Rich adds that, “the guys are just building up their performance,” to the upcoming matches against Dundee Sentraal on their homeground on June 21 and then Newcastle again on Saturday, June 28, at home.
