Opportunistic thief steals R12k from parked car

Dundee SAPS warns residents not to leave valuable items in their vehicle, as thieves are paying attention.

She was only away for 10 minutes, but that’s all the time a thief needed to smash a car window and flee with R12 000.

The victim drove to a local bank last Friday afternoon, with the intention of depositing money into the ATM. However, when she arrived at the bank, there the ATMs were not working.

She then returned to her office on Gladstone Street, parked her car and went back to the office. The money was left in the vehicle. When the victim returned to her vehicle, she found the passenger window smashed and the money gone.

Spokesman for Dundee SAPS, Captain Veli Mbense, urged motorists not to leave valuables in their cars.

“Thieves are very observant. Please take precautions, by removing all valuables from your vehicle, even if you are away for just five seconds,” he said.
