LETTER – Glencoe is now ‘bump city’

Out of the blue a new speed bump suddenly appeared just opposite the ABH home on Biggar Street

Sir
As if the “Biggar Street Stink” we had to endure last week wasn’t enough, today Glencoe residents were once again in for another surprise.

Out of the blue a new speed bump suddenly appeared just opposite the ABH home on Biggar Street this morning and I swear (as many others would) that it was not there when I left for work!

While it takes months (or never) to get potholes repaired just a hundred meters away speed bumps are mushrooming all over town.

No warning sign before the bump and with shadows cast from adjacent buildings in the afternoon, these bumps are difficult to spot until you suddenly encounter them. There are no marker poles on the side of the road.

Broken glass lies on the road at the base of the speed bump and I wonder how many unsuspecting motorists entering or leaving town had a rude welcome jolt! What exactly was the purpose of this?
