Ten arrested for tobacco truck theft

They dumped the truck in the bushes near the Utrecht area, before fleeing with the contents

Ten men were arrested by quick acting police, a few hours after they held up a vehicle transporting tobacco near Dundee.

The men, aged between 25 and 40, hijacked a British American Tobacco vehicle, taking the occupants with them.

Local police were alerted and an intensive search was launched by various units and stations for the men.

They were eventually arrested in the KwaMdakane area. Two unlicensed pistols and a rifle with ammunition were recovered. Some of the tobacco boxes taken during the robbery were also recovered. Police also recovered a VW Polo vehicle, used by the men, at the house.

The will appear in the Dundee Magistrates Court.
