Biltongfees plans ‘maturing well’ as the ‘fees comes home’

The programme so far includes Mari Bosman, Ricus Nel, The Gee Jays with Marion Loudon, Christo Badenhorst, Die Flooze and Dewald Wasserfall."

One of the area’s premier events, the Biltongfees, will again happen at Battlefields Country Lodge on June 15, albeit under a slightly different guise.
Now in its 28th year, the Fees – which attracts between 4000 to 6000 from around the area and beyond – is this year organised by Battlefields Country Lodge and a committee of volunteers – some of whom were members of the young Rapportryers who founded the Fees.
Dave O’ Hallaron of Battlefields Country Lodge is excited about the project – now that ‘it has come home to Dundee’ after being run from Vryheid via Pionier High School for the past several years.
“What we are looking at is a community-driven project which will be ploughed back to the area.”

Tourism Dundee has indicated their support for the event and will also be manning an information stand to ensure the many outside visitors get to learn more about Dundee and will, hopefully, be encouraged to visit again.

Good news is that stall holders will pay R500 a stall – instead of R1000 – and each stall will be designated two free tickets for those manning the stalls.
“Should a stall owner want to bring in more than two people, then they will have to pay for the tickets which are R80 for adults (children under 16 R40 and children under five free). Unfortunately, past experience has shown us that giving free access to all those supposedly working at a stall is abused.”
Dave added that with the emphasis being on the community, charitable institutions – such as the SPCA, schools, welfare organisations and religious bodies – will be given stalls for free should they wish to sell food or goods to raise funds.
The emphasis again is on locally made arts, crafts and food and ‘anything unusual’.

Dave O’ Hallaron, General Manager of Battlefields Country Lodge, is excited that the Biltongfees in June has ‘come home to Dundee’.

Who will be crowned this year’s Miss Biltongfees?
The crowning of the much-sought-after Biltong King will be a highlight as biltong makers go up against each other to win bragging rights.
Music, of course, is always a big attraction at the Biltongfees and this year the line-up is impressive. “With the emphasis being on Afrikaans culture we have gone for a certain genre but we are by no means limiting anyone. The programme so far includes Mari Bosman, Ricus Nel, The Gee Jays with Marion Loudon, Christo Badenhorst, Die Flooze and Dewald Wasserfall.”
Dave said the Biltong Bash on Friday night, June 14, hosted by the Rotary Club will also be going ahead as usual with the Rotarians hosting a fun night where guests get to savour the best biltong on offer while enjoying good fellowship. Watch the Courier and Courier website for more details.
