Vandals still helping themselves at vacated DJSS

Even while the Courier was at the school a man was seen inside one of the abandoned classrooms...

Vandals are systematically destroying the vacant Dundee Junior Secondary School on Oldacre Street.  This morning, while the Courier was at the school at least one man, was seen in one of the classrooms possibly removing material.

WATCH: The school has fallen into disrepute and decay

There is still no security at the school.
The school, which was vacated last year after parents protested against what they said were unsafe conditions at the building, has not been used since last July.
Around 850 pupils are being temporarily accommodated at the Department of Education premises in Forestdale.
At numerous meetings between parents and Department officials, it was said that work on renovating the Oldacre Street school would have started in October 2018.

Crisis continues at Dundee Junior Secondary School

Learners removed from DJSS as chaos reigns

Roads blocked off around Education Department
This never happened. Now the school has been smashed to virtual pieces – corrugated roofing has been removed, toilets ripped out, floorboards removed and electrical cabling destroyed.
Weeds have taken over the courtyard and the school looks in a sorry state, irate parents who contacted the Courier said.

The sign on the wall states no vandalism, but sadly no one takes notice of the notice

“The Department said they would start in October to fix the school. Instead, it looks abandoned with not even a security officer there. What will it cost now to renovate after all this vandalism?” asked one mother who declined to be named.
Gift Gaysman, chairman of the Dundee Junior Secondary School Governing Body, said the blatant destruction of the school was of great concern.
