Dundee/Glencoe road opens following urgent repair work

The road lines still have to be completed

Motorists have greeted the opening of the new-look Dundee/Glencoe road with relief. The road was closed on January 8 for urgent repairs to a badly rutted section from the overhead bridge for about 500 metres towards the Testing Station.

The closure resulted in traffic travelling to Dundee – and from Dundee to Glencoe – having to use the badly pot-holed Biggar Street North near the Glencoe Prison.

Dundee/Glencoe road closed for roadworks

The traffic congestion from vehicles travelling to and from Dundee and Glencoe in the mornings and afternoons resulted in several fender benders as motorists grew impatient.

Frikkie Coetsee of the Traffic Department reported that his officers had issued ‘many fines’ for motorists overtaking on the solid barrier line up Mpati.

“The lines are faded but this is no excuse for motorists to endanger the lives of fellow road users by overtaking in a reckless manner.  The lines will be repainted and motorists need to be patient,” he warned.

Lines still have to be painted on the newly tarred section of the Dundee/Glencoe road and motorists are asked to proceed with caution.
