Dundee loses bubbly Joyce (90)

Her interaction with the Dundee community and her strong ties with the parishioners of St James will be strongly missed.

Dundee recently lost a well-known and well-loved senior citizen, Joyce May Carls, who was born on May 21, 1928 and passed away on June 20. Joyce, aged 90 years, succumbed to a debilitating stroke on April 1. Mourners from far and wide attended the Requiem Mass and funeral held at St James Anglican Church on June 23.

The officiating priests were Archdeacon Amos Nkosi, Revd Alixe Fraser of St James, Dundee and Revd Mbatha of St James Isipingo.
Aunty Joyce was well-known in the community as a person with a bubbly personality and a strong-willed character. Many will remember her from when she worked in the Cosy Tearoom and later managed the Royal Hotel for more than a decade. Her interaction with the Dundee community and her strong ties with the parishioners of St James will be strongly missed.
She is survived by her nine children: Lynette, Danny, Beryl, Andrew, Jocelyn, Vivian, Bruce, Marlene and Donald, their spouses, 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
