Seven arrested as police sweep against illegal firearms

All the recovered firearms had their serial numbers filed off and these operations are continuing.

Police pounced on two homesteads in the Hlazakazi area, Nquthu, last week where two couples were arrested.
The first couple, aged 43 and 48, was arrested after they were found with a 9mm pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition.
Police then apprehended another couple, aged 42 and 43, who was arrested after two pistols with eight rounds of ammunition were found in their possession.
They were all charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They will appear in the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court.
The widespread operation against illegal firearms then proceeded to the Mkhuphula area where a 40-year-old man was arrested after he was found with an AK47 rifle and 10 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

A 49-year-old man was arrested in his homestead at Mkhuphula area after he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with no ammunition.
In the Mandleni area, a 49-year-old man was found in possession of a pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition and arrested. They were all charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and will appear in the Msinga Magistrate’s Court.
All the recovered firearms had their serial numbers filed off and these operations are continuing.
