Former Dundonians still have ‘green blood’
They donned the green and gold to support the Blitzbokke in the past weekend's Sevens Rugby competition.
Former Dundonians, Freddy and Heidi Moon, who for years have been living on the west coast of Canada, showed their patriotic fervour when they donned the green and gold to support the Blitzbokke in the past weekend’s Sevens Rugby competition.
The Moons are a 45-minute drive away from the stadium in Vancouver where the tournament was hosted. They watched the last leg of the tournament where the Boks managed to again reach the final but unfortunately lost out to England 19-7.
The Blitzbokke started the tournament, the second of the North American leg of the World Series, 24 points ahead of Fiji in second place. They now return to South Africa on Wednesday, 23 points ahead of England, who have moved into second spot on the overall log.
The lead over Fiji, current series champions and Olympic Gold medalists, is now 26 points with four tournaments remaining in the 2016/17 series.
Heidi’s dad, Jeff Shardelow, is a former Dundee Mayor of the early 1990s. He and his wife, Hilary, ran Pearsons for many years in Dundee. Freddy’s dad was Colonel William Moon former District Commissioner of the Dundee SAPS.
The Moons are in contact with Ivan Kloke, former Dundee municipal civil defence officer, who left for Nigel, Gauteng, with his wife, Ria, in the early 2000s.
