Love is in the Air!
Valentine’s Day conjures up images of roses and teddy bears, anticipation, joy and disappointment. A day where being single is something people face stoically. It is also a day of sales for the matric farewell. This year there were two prizes to be won: a raffle for a love hamper with chocolates, coffee mug, fluffy stuffed elephant and hearts galore; the second prize went to the best dressed learner who received a stunning hand-made gift! The raffle winner was Ms Menelaou and the best dressed learner was Ian Kyambadde. A huge thank you to Mrs Fölscher and her team for organizing a fun day!

Panarotti’s netball tournament
On Saturday some of the Sarel Cilliers netball teams participated in the Panarotti’s netball tournament at Ferrum High School in Newcastle. There were several matches to be played and the school is proud of the results achieved. In the first team, Sethina Ochu-Acheampong was player of the match in one of the matches they played. Well done, Sethina! The under 16 team played five matches and made it all the way to the finals against Pionier. This means that they came second overall and won silver medals. Congratulations! Sne Molefe was women of the match. Well done!

Sarel boys’ hockey first team also participated in a tournament over the weekend and won three of the five matches they played.

Ms Menelaou aces the Midmar Mile!
Sarel staff are known to be fearless, but Ms Menelaou took it to the next level when she participated in this year’s Midmar Mile. It was her first time and she had worked very hard over a period of a year to get fit. She used to practice almost every day with Ms Ackerman, who has sadly moved overseas. Ms Menelaou never gave up and reaped the rewards of her hard work and self-discipline by finishing the Midmar Mile with a medal.
Please note that I renamed my photos to reflect the names of learners where possible.
