100 rounds of golf over weekend

Four players who finished on a net score of 67, and Petros Mhlungu took first prize

Dundee Country Club was fortunate enough to see another bumper golf weekend with over 100 rounds of golf being played over this past weekend. On Saturday, some 36 players entered the Endumeni Mayoral Golf Day, a 4 BBBS event, which saw the partnership of Sifiso Kunene and Leon Wellman scoring 47 points to win the competition. Club Captain Marc Bradbury and his partner, Wynand Ackermann, finished in second place on 46 points, while the pairing of J Zulu and H Hlongwane won the count out on 45 points to finish third.

The novelty prizes for nearest the pin on the short holes went to: J Khumalo, hole no. 4; C Munro, hole no. 8; S Kunene, on hole no. 12, and picking up the prize on the 16th hole was a past member of the club, now residing in Australia and out here on holiday, Bruce Allen. The prize for closest for two on the 18th hole, went to Sifiso Kunene.

Sixty-five players took part in ‘The Mayibuye Golf Day’ on Sunday, an individual medal competition. Winning the prize for the Best Gross score of the day was E Sithebe, who had to play off against Shakeel Kalideen over an extra hole as both players completed the regulatory eighteen holes one over par. There were four players who finished on a net score of 67, and Petros Mhlungu took first prize on a count out from Cyril Mkhwanazi, Mark Nero and Shakeel Kalideen.

The prizes for nearest the pin on the short holes were won by, Z Adam, on hole no. 4; M Ackermann, on hole no. 8; J Khumalo, on the 12th hole and R Khumalo on the 16th hole. This coming Saturday, December 10, is the December Monthly Mug Medal Competition. Golfers must diarise next weekend, Friday, December 16 and Saturday, December 17, Battery Centre will be hosting their annual golf tournament which will be played over the two days.
