Another job scam is doing the rounds – do not lose out on your hard-earned cash

“That’s when we knew it was a scam as it did not match his name and we decided not to pay in the money or meet him.”

Rebecca Thwala of Sibongile was one of those who came close to losing out to R2 400 as demanded by the ‘job recruiter’.
She told the Courier that after seeing the advert on the Internet, she contacted a man calling himself Mike Mlaba who asked that she send in her CV.
Later, he emailed the forms to Rebecca and was told that she ‘would be employed as a manager’. He then demanded that she pay R2 400 ‘or half of this amount’ for the medical forms. He said they would meet near Spar in Dundee and complete the exchange.
Fortunately, one of Rebecca’s friends became suspicious. “She said we should double check Mr Mlaba’s email address. We did and found that the address he was using was 100chauke@gmail.com.

They also contacted Springlake mine who denied any knowledge of advertising vacancies on the Internet.
The Courier also phoned Mr Mlaba on the number 071 821 4514 on the pretext of wanting to apply for a job. He asked the Courier journalist to send in a CV . When asked where his office is located he became vague and put down the phone. Rebecca said she is glad that her friend was ‘so on the ball’ and warned readers not to part with any money when applying for a job. They are still to report the incident to the police.
