Mayoral car not used to hand out party shirts, Mayor says

Mayor Mahaye is fighting the Ward 2 seat in which the Mpati area falls. The sitting Councillor in the ward is the DA’s Anthon Raubenheimer.

Mayor Thulani Mahaye has refuted allegations that the Mayoral Audi Q7 was used yesterday to distribute ANC T-shirts.

The Courier received calls late yesterday afternoon from residents in the Mpati area that ANC campaigners were using the Mayoral car to hand out the shirts to passers-by as part of a door-to-door campaign.

However, Mayor Mahaye said ‘while it is true that we were campaigning in that area, the Mayoral vehicle was not used as a distribution centre’.

“The shirts were in the car and from there transferred to volunteers’ cars and then handed out. The car was then driven back to the Municipality. We do not want to create a false impression.”  The Courier went down to the area and the Mayoral car was seen driving on Union Street.
