Bumper golfing weekend produces amazing action

Dundee Country Club enjoyed a busy golfing weekend with more than two hundred rounds of golf being played over the weekend in our Annual Battlefields Easter Tournament.

The Club would like to extend a very big thank you to their local sponsors, Dunlop, Tugela Creative Shades, OK Value, Charlie’s Super Spar, Farmtrac and LJ Engineering for making the weekend possible. Friday’s Individual Stableford Competition was won by Dan Scholtz on 39 points followed by Debbie Catlett, who managed to beat Ayanda Mthembu on a count out, both scoring 38 points. Finishing in fourth place on 37 points was Greg Bye, a visitor from Howick Golf Club.

The novelty prizes for nearest the pin on the short holes were won by C Mkhwanazi on hole no. 4, R Catlett on hole no. 8, L Slabbert on hole no. 12 and R Khumalo on hole no.16. Picking up the prize for closest to the flag on hole no. 18 was J Clarke.
Saturday’s Combined Stableford Competition saw Kallie Roetz and Willie Erasmus being easy winners with a great score of 81 points. P.Mhlungu and Z Qwabi came in second with 69 points and following in third place was the pairing of D Scholtz and L de Witt on 68 points.

The prizes of nearest the pin on short holes went to G Robson on hole no. 4, A Mthembu on hole no.8, J Clarke on hole no. 12 and B Meyer on hole no. 16, with J Zulu winning the prize for closest to the flag on hole no. 18.

There were also prizes awarded to individual players with the best scores over the two days, with local favourite Debbie Catlett walking away with the first prize of 78 points.

Dan Scholtz was second on 74 points and Ayanda Mthembu third on 73 points.
Sunday saw the Dundee Open 36 hole stroke play, being contested by some 42 players with a stiff breeze making conditions rather difficult for most of the players.
The winner of the Open having to be decided on the 37th hole, as the eventual winner, Joe Khumalo and Cyril Mkhwanazi, were tied after the regulatory 36 holes of play.

The B Division was won by L Sithole and finishing in second was S Sithole. Winning the prize for the best net score of the 36 holes, was Club Captain, Mark Bradbury and the runner up was S Zulu. This coming Saturday, April 2, is the Monthly Mug Medal Competition.
