R465 million to upgrade road infrastructure in Bergville

R83 million has been set aside for emerging contractors

MEC for Transport & Human Settlements Siboniso Duma visited Bergville on Tuesday (October 8), where he announced a massive upgrade of the road infrastructure. The project is worth R465 million and includes the rehabilitation of the main road (P394), which covers a stretch of approximately 24km.
Duma said that R83 million out of the R465 million has been set aside for emerging contractors in deep rural areas of Okhahlamba Local Municipality.
The communities of KwaVimbukhalo, Mhlwazini and Magangagozi celebrated when Duma announced job creation and the improvement of their road.
Duma outlined the following breakdown of emerging local companies to benefit:
● Owned by women – R24.9 million;
● Owned by youth – R29 million;
● Owned by people with disabilities – R4.1 million;
● Owned by military veterans – R8.3 million;
● Owned by others – R16.6 million.
The Department of Human Settlements has also invested R61 million towards the construction of houses.
