Multi-disciplinary operation leads to multiple arrests in Osizweni

A multi-disciplinary and intelligence-driven operation resulted in the arrests of eight suspects throughout the vicinity of Osizweni between September 13 and September 19.

The operation included members of the Osizweni SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, Newcastle K9 Unit, Public Order Policing, and Amajuba District SAPS.

Possession of a stolen vehicle:
A 27-year-old man was arrested after police patrolling Section F followed up on a tip-off regarding a possible stolen vehicle. The driver was found to have a suspected stolen Mazda Rustler bakkie worth around R100 000.

Possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition:

  • Police arrested a 23-year-old suspect in Section E after being tipped off that he had with him an illegal firearm. Police retrieved a 9mm Taurus pistol with six live rounds of ammunition. The value of the firearm and ammunition is around R14 000.
  • A 37-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm in the Jakalaaspan area, near the JV Tavern, after police were tipped off about his activities. Police confiscated a 9mm Norinco Pistol and eight live rounds of ammunition. The value of the pistol and ammunition is estimated at R30 000.

Possession of stolen goods:

  • A tip-off led police to Section A, where they arrested two suspects aged 22 and 36 for being in possession of stolen items, which included stolen clothes, a wifi router, and two cellphones all valued at around R34K.
  • A 22-year-old suspect was arrested at Mabaso Stand after he was caught in possession of a stolen 20-meter electrical cable worth R4K.

Possession of drugs:

  • A 48-year-old suspect was also arrested in Section A after he was caught in possession of 40 small parcels of Whoonga worth around R2K.
  • A 30-year-old suspect was arrested when he was found with eight half tablets of Mandrax worth around R500.
    All eight suspects have since appeared at the Madadeni Magistrates Court.
