Why they call Glencoe’s Luthando Miss Universe…

Luthando, a Sarel Cilliers High School learner, said her mentor suggested that she enter the pageant because 'it would be a great challenge to do and, of course, an opportunity of becoming acknowledged by many new people'.

At 17 years old, Luthando Mngomezulu of Glencoe is focusing on what could be a promising modelling career, following her success in the Miss Teen Youth Unified SA pageant, where she won the provincial round to represent KZN at the national finals in Johannesburg.
There, she was declared the provincial winner, as well as ‘best on-stage performer’ and ‘best of appreciation’.

“This experience was truly enjoyable. I got to make new sisters and share our own sisterhood, despite aiming for the same crown. The important thing is that, despite being from different towns in the country, all of us were queens.
“I truly feel proud of myself and my whole family has been bragging about me non-stop, not to mention how my friends now call me ‘Miss Universe’ after just one win!”

She said she is focused on the future, hoping to continue her journey in pageantry and getting to see how far she can go.
“I don’t mind if this is on the provincial, national or international stage.
“I also want to try my hand at commercial modelling,” says this young go-getter.
