Edumbe municipal manager dies in tragic crash

According to preliminary police investigations, there were no potholes in that specific area that could’ve caused the crash

Two people died in a horrifying crash on Wednesday last week in the Ntendeka area. The municipal manager of Edumbe Municipality, John Khumalo (55), was one of the victims in this gruesome head-on collision involving two double-cab bakkies on the Natal Spa Road. KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services responded to the crash and found that three people, including a toddler, had already gotten out of one of the bakkies, but a man was still trapped in the wreckage. The team worked tirelessly to save lives, but the driver of the one bakkie, as well as a passenger in the other bakkie died at the scene. Both vehicles were unrecognisable after the impact; all crumpled up like insignificant pieces of paper. According to preliminary police investigations, there were no potholes in that specific area that could’ve caused the crash, even though it was indicated that the one bakkie was allegedly driving in the oncoming traffic lane. Condolences poured in on the Herald’s Facebook page, as well as from AbaQulusi Local Municipality Mayor Mkhwanazi, the Edumbe council, and the communities of Edumbe and Vryheid. The Vryheid Herald also extends its condolences to the families of the deceased.
