Newcastle Mall makes learner’s dreams come true

In a heartfelt gesture, Newcastle Mall stepped in to make sure that a deserving learner from Amajuba High School did not miss out on their matric dance.

Every high school learner fantasises about their big matric dance day, where they get to don the finest suit or dress, walk the stage in front of adoring family and friends, and party the night away before bidding adieu to their high school career.

Newcastle Mall Manager, Beulah Rajkumar, said Amajuba High School deputy principal, Gerhard Kriel, approached her to ask for assistance in providing a deserving student with a night he will never forget.

Kriel described the learner, Cornelius Odidika, ‘as an outstanding student who is in the top 10 and is an excellent first-team athlete’.

However, Cornelius comes from a less fortunate background and needs financial assistance with his matric farewell. Kriel felt it was important to do something special for him.

Beulah reached out to various businesses at the mall, with five coming on board to assist. Lina Boutique donated the suit, Edgars sponsored the cologne, Legends Barber gave him a Hollywood haircut and Woolworths made sure his footwear was on point.

Cornelius arrived at the dance in style as a true celebrity, with Omoda sponsoring a car and driver.

” Hard works pays off. Cornelius is a straight A student, he is always available to assist with anything at school. He deserves this wonderful surprise,” remarked Kriel.

As for Cornelius, he said he was shocked when he arrived at the mall to balloons and saw a poster informing him that he was being sponsored for his matric dance.

“I was so shocked but I knew it was real because I have really awesome teachers who really got he extra mile for all of us. Thanks to them, I had a fantastic matric dance that exceeded all my expectations.”

Cornelius thanked the mall, all the businesses that came together, all for him, and his parents for always standing by him.

“May God bless you all. I am really grateful for all you have done,.” he said.
