Municipality warns of job scam

The public is warned against making payments in exchange for jobs, as this qualifies as corruption.

Newcastle Municipality has issued a warning about a fraudster who is claiming to be a municipal employee from the Department of Technical Services.

“The Newcastle Municipality cautions all job seekers of an ongoing scam in the form of an unsigned letter addressed by ZGB Zondi who is not a municipal employee in the Department of Technical Services,” the municipality said in a statement.

“The public is urged not to fall prey to such scams for individuals who have been scammed to report the matter to the SAPS urgently. ”

The municipality said that ‘municipal jobs are not for sale and the municipality follows a fair and transparent recruitment and tender process.’

They further reminded the community that if there are jobs, local newspapers and the official municipal website (www.newcastle.gov.za) are the sole official platforms for posting job openings for the municipality.

The public is also advised not to send in medical information or pay for jobs in exchange for employment, as these actions are seen as corruption that could result in prosecution for those caught in the act.

“Those found committing such a crime will have to face the wrath of the law and will be prosecuted,” they concluded.
