Double murder accused appears in front of a packed gallery

The accused is charged with gunning down a woman and a relative and the attempted murder of another woman following an alleged dispute over money.

The gallery was packed with family and friends when double murder accused Ali Majola appeared in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court last Monday.

He is accused of killing Ntombifuthi Mabaso and her relative, Mncedisi Buthelezi; and the attempted murder of Slindile Mabaso at a workshop in Cornhill Street in June.

It is alleged that the three had gone to see Majola at his workshop in a bid to reclaim money Ntombifuthi had given him to pay for a car that was allegedly never delivered. It is alleged that a heated argument occurred between the four of them, during which Majola produced a .38 revolver and fired about five shots.

Ntombifuthi was shot and it is alleged that Majola then struck her in the face with an engine block. She died at the scene, as did Mncedisi Slindile. Slindile was hit in the shoulder and managed to run into an office to escape.

The alarm was raised and members of the public ran to assist. Police were called and Majola was arrested at the scene.

Majola, who was represented by legal aid, did not say anything in court and was remanded into custody until August 14.

The state is awaiting further investigation and outstanding documents. Majola had previously abandoned a bail application.
