The MEC and his team visited Defy Appliances, Pro-Textiles and Sumitomo Rubber

MEC for Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs Rev Musa Zondi carried out oversight visits to key industrial hubs and estate sites in Ladysmith on Thursday, July 4. The visits underscore provincial government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and supporting industrial development.

MEC Zondi received a comprehensive briefing during an event that was held at Dongala Boutique Hotel, in preparation for his visits to several industrial sites.

The MEC aimed to evaluate the progress and impact of ongoing industrial projects, ensuring that they align with the strategic objectives of economic revitalisation and sustainable development. By engaging directly with site managers, business leaders and local stakeholders, the MEC sought to gain firsthand insights into the challenges and opportunities within these industrial zones.

In his welcome speech, District Mayor Inkosi Shabalala said the visit by the MEC is recognition of the hard work and dedication the community has put into transforming this region into a hub of economic activity and growth.

He said, “Ezakheni has been a beacon of industrial development in our district. It stands as a testament to the work of the then government of KwaZulu, which was led by His Excellency uMntwana wakwaPhindangene as its prime minister, which fostered an environment that encouraged innovation, supported businesses and provided employment opportunities for our people, which in the last 15 years has regressed and deteriorated.”
