Mthombeni Foundation helps out on pension payout day

Pensioners were provided with hot tea and a bite to eat

The Mthombeni Foundation, in partnership with the Mpumelelo BHW (Bonhopewiseman) Community Healthcare Centre, prepared sandwiches and hot tea for senior citizens who were collecting their grant payments outside the post office early this month.

This platform was created because it gets mightily cold these winter mornings and the pensioners have to stand in long queues waiting for their grant money.

“We wanted to show them love and care. The Mpumelelo BHW Community Healthcare Centre trains students and wanted to check blood pressure, sugar and adherence to medication. Due to the bad weather, we ended up not doing all of that though,” said Mzee Duma from the foundation.

After receiving their sandwiches, tea and a mini fruit pack, the senior citizens seemed to be a lot happier. “They couldn’t believe there are people out there who still care enough about them to bring something to eat on pension payout day.”

The elderly urged the foundation to come back again next month, because some of them don’t eat before coming to collect their grants. Those who wish to support this initiative can call 0787889154 or 0719300890
