MEC hands out 240 title deeds in Dundee but not without confusion

The beneficiaries all received RDP housing in the Forestdale and Dlamini Village projects. MEC Nkosi indicated that more houses will be built in these areas in the future.

Despite some confusion, 240 title deeds were recently handed out to residents in Forestdale and Dlamini village when KZN Human Settlements MEC Sipho ‘KK’ Nkosi visited the area. In what many claimed was electioneering, residents were asked to gather at the Forestdale sports grounds with Ward 6 Cllr Zitha Shelembe.

MEC Nkosi said 200 title deeds were for Forestdale beneficiaries and 40 for Dlamini Village beneficiaries. He added that each issued title deed was valued at R25,000 (with the conveyancing costs) and was paid for by the government.

It was said at the meeting that some of the houses built some years ago were never completed by the contractor.
There were also concerns over the poor workmanship.
However, the MEC said new contractors have been enlisted to start new projects for houses and flats in these areas. There were also concerns over the theft of electricity in Endumeni, with illegal connections costing the municipality millions of rands. Transformers have also been burnt out because of the overloading caused by the illegal connections.

There was some confusion when only 100 title deeds, instead of the promised 200, were handed out to Forestdale residents. Residents then had to travel to the Glencoe municipal offices the following morning to pick up the outstanding title deeds. Some expressed their displeasure at having to waste their time and money to fetch their title deeds.
