Wacky Wednesday: Five of the strangest phobias
The Newcastle Advertiser has a look at five of the 'weirdest' phobias known to man.
It is never a ‘laughing’ matter when one experiences a fear so crippling that it leaves you in tears.
However, sometimes those fears may seem a bit ‘over the top’ and unreal, and one cannot help but laugh about them.
The Newcastle Advertiser has compiled five of the strangest phobias we could find:
1. Arachibutyrophobia:
Arachibutyrophobia is the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of one’s mouth.
2. Somniphobia:
Somniphobia is the fear of ‘initiating sleep’ or falling asleep.
3. Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia:
Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia is the fear of the number 666.
4. Spectrophobia:
Spectrophobia or catoptrophobia is the abnormal and persistent fear of mirrors and an anxiety about seeing one’s face reflected in them.
5. Omphalophobia:
Omphalophobia is a fear of belly buttons.
